Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja has reaffirmed the government’s confidence in the Uganda Peoplesโ€™ Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade and the National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), citing their proven ability to deliver high-impact infrastructure projects across the country.

Speaking during the launch of the Masindi Municipal Council AFCON training facility project and the construction of Masindi Hospital, Nabbanja said the two institutions have consistently demonstrated professionalism, efficiency, and the technical capacity required to execute strategic national projects.

The AFCON training facility, a key component of Ugandaโ€™s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), will be constructed by the UPDF Engineering Brigade under the supervision of Lt. Col. Peter Seku Kidemuka. Meanwhile, NEC Construction Works and Engineering Ltd has been tasked with building the new Masindi Hospital.

Nabbanja noted that the governmentโ€™s trust in both entities stems from their impressive track record in delivering major infrastructure developments, including the construction of Hoima City Stadium and the renovation of Mandela National Stadium.

โ€œWe have full faith in NEC and the UPDF Engineering Brigade because they have consistently demonstrated professionalism and the ability to deliver quality work,โ€ she said.

According to the Prime Minister, the successful execution of previous assignments has provided assurance that the Masindi projects will be completed to the highest standards and within the expected timelines.

She also commended the Chief of Defence Forces and Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as well as the Managing Director of NEC, for their continued dedication to advancing national development initiatives.

Nabbanja emphasized that the governmentโ€™s confidence is anchored in the institutionsโ€™ ability to handle complex projects while maintaining quality and efficiency, making them ideal partners in Ugandaโ€™s preparations for the continental football showpiece.

On behalf of NEC, the General Manager of NEC Construction Works and Engineering Ltd, Eng. Brian Buhanda, expressed appreciation to the government for entrusting the corporation with the assignment. He pledged that NEC would work closely with the UPDF Engineering Brigade to ensure the projects are completed on schedule ahead of AFCON 2027.

โ€œWe shall work diligently to ensure that the facility meets the required standards and is completed on schedule,โ€ Buhanda said.

The launch ceremony attracted several senior government and military officials, including State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang, Deputy Division Commander of the Artillery Division Col. Rogers Dhikusooka Kitwala, engineers from NEC and the UPDF Engineering Brigade, and Maj. Onesmus Kakuru, among others.

The projects mark another significant step in Ugandaโ€™s preparations for AFCON 2027, while also strengthening healthcare and sports infrastructure in Masindi, positioning the district to benefit from long-term social and economic development.
