The Government of Uganda, through NWSC, is advancing the Hoima Water Supply Project to strengthen water infrastructure and support the rapid growth of the Albertine Region, including preparations for AFCON and the expanding oil and gas sector.

The Hoima 2 project will draw water from the River Kafu in Kikuube District, treating up to 3 million litres daily before supplying Hoima City through about 25 kilometres of pipelines. It will also include a 300-cubic-metre elevated reservoir at Musaijamukulu Hill, alongside pumping, electrical and storage facilities.

The project will complement the existing Hoima 1 system, whose capacity is increasingly strained by population growth, urbanisation and rising industrial activity.

Meanwhile, NWSC and the Government are finalising designs for Hoima 3, a longer-term expansion that will increase water production, transmission and storage capacity, with the systems eventually integrated into one resilient network.
