The Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) is set to begin locally printing Ugandaโ€™s secure documents, strengthening the countryโ€™s capacity to produce vital documents and reduce reliance on external services.

USPCโ€™s Hajji Abdul Nsubuga said NIRA has provided the security features needed to produce National ID cards, which contain more than 20 security features across seven layers. The company has established a state-of-the-art security printing factory in Uganda, described as the first of its kind in Africa.

The facility will also produce driving permits, passports, education certificates, land titles, ballot papers, and security stickers for institutions such as UNBS. USPC plans to print Ugandaโ€™s currency in the future and offer secure-document services to neighbouring countries.

The development was announced during the My Identity Expo and Symposium 2026, organised by NIRA at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds and running until October 1.
