Uganda has vaccinated 8,285,835 children aged nine months to five years against measles and rubella during a nationwide immunisation campaign conducted from October 1–5, 2026.
The Ministry of Health credited the achievement to the collective efforts of health workers, parents, caregivers, community leaders and development partners, thanking them for ensuring children received the vaccines.
The ministry emphasised that efforts to protect children will continue beyond the campaign, urging families to maintain routine immunisation to prevent outbreaks and protect children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
Measles and rubella are highly contagious viral infections that can cause serious health complications, particularly among young children, while rubella poses additional risks to unborn babies when contracted during pregnancy.
