Uganda and Denmark have discussed strengthening cooperation in oil spill preparedness and environmental response on Lake Victoria as Uganda advances towards oil production. The partnership aims to enhance preparedness and response mechanisms for environmental risks while promoting the sustainable management of the lake’s resources.
The discussions also focused on opportunities within the Blue Economy, including aquaculture, as well as collaboration in fire prevention and rescue services. Uganda is exploring a national programme to modernise fire prevention and rescue services across its cities, with Denmark proposing selected investments through government-to-government cooperation. The proposed framework carries an indicative investment value of between EUR 50 million and EUR 70 million, subject to feasibility studies and prioritisation.
In the health sector, the two sides explored cooperation on the proposed upgrade of Wakiso Health Centre IV into a modern 300-bed public general hospital. The project is intended to address rapid population growth and existing health infrastructure gaps in Wakiso District, with an estimated investment of between EUR 120 million and EUR 140 million.
The engagements highlight the growing partnership between Uganda and Denmark and their shared commitment to advancing practical and sustainable investments that support infrastructure development, economic transformation, improved public services and environmental resilience.
