A total of 993 older persons aged 80 and above in Jinja City are set to receive a quarterly payment of Sh75,000 each under the Governmentโs Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment (SAGE) programme.
According to Olivia Tamubula, Jinja Cityโs senior community development officer and focal person for older persons, the payment represents a monthly stipend of Sh25,000, with about Sh74.5 million scheduled for distribution.
The five-day exercise, which started on Monday, August 10, will cover beneficiaries across Jinja Cityโs Northern and Southern divisions. Officials will distribute the funds at designated points in areas including Budondo, Namizi, Jinja Central, Kimaka, Mpumudde and Walukuba/Masese.
Many beneficiaries live alone or with grandchildren and rely on the grant to meet basic needs, including medical care, food, clothing and bedding.
