The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has launched a new phase of road rehabilitation under the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area Urban Development Programme (GKMA-UDP), with construction set to run for the next 16 months.
The project covers Old Kireka Road, Lance Road, Kireka Link, Bombo Road II (WandegeyaโBwaise), Yusuf Lule Road, Gaddafi Road, and Bukoto Street. Once completed, the upgraded roads are expected to improve connectivity, enhance mobility, and support the smooth movement of people and goods across Kampala.
KCCA has cautioned motorists and other road users to expect temporary traffic disruptions and longer travel times during construction. To reduce inconvenience, diversion routes will be clearly marked, while Traffic Police and road marshals will manage traffic flow. Road users are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance, use alternative routes, and follow all traffic guidance.
The rehabilitation works are part of the wider GKMA-UDP initiative, which aims to modernise Kampala’s transport infrastructure, reduce congestion, improve drainage, and boost accessibility across the metropolitan area.
KCCA thanked the public for their patience and cooperation as it works towards delivering a safer, more efficient road network for the city.
