Kabaleega International Airport in Hoima District recorded a major milestone on September 27, 2026, when it received its first passenger aircraft, marking a significant step towards its official commissioning. The Eagle Air Uganda Let L-410 Turbolet landed with Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials and players ahead of the Uganda CranesโLibya match in Hoima. The landing demonstrated the airportโs operational readiness, while Uganda Airlines also conducted flights as part of government efforts to showcase the facility to leaders from the Bunyoro sub-region.
Located in Kabaale, Hoima District, the airport features a 3.5-kilometre runway and modern passenger, cargo, navigation and safety facilities. Developed to support Ugandaโs oil and gas sector, it is also expected to boost tourism, trade, agriculture and passenger travel. With President Yoweri Museveni expected to officially commission the airport in January 2027, the facility is set to play a key role in Ugandaโs preparations for the 2027 AFCON tournament and strengthen Hoimaโs position as a growing economic and transport hub for the Albertine region.
