More than 16,000kg of relief food from the Office of the Prime Minister has been distributed to families in Akalo Town Council, Kole Constituency, whose crops were destroyed by severe hailstorms on July 24.
Kole South MP Boniface Okot raised the disaster in Parliament as a matter of national importance, urging government to support affected households after crops including maize, cassava, beans and soybeans were destroyed across several cells.
Following his lobbying and government assessment, the Office of the Prime Minister released about 11,000kg of maize and an additional 5,000kg for the affected families.
During the September 26 distribution, MP Okot cautioned beneficiaries against selling the relief food for alcohol and pledged to continue following up for further support.
Beneficiaries and local leaders praised his efforts, while CAO Stephen Lokope urged communities and grassroots leaders to promptly report disasters so government intervention can be secured.
The intervention provides much-needed relief to families whose livelihoods were severely affected by the hailstorms.
