Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero has confirmed heightened regional vigilance following a renewed Ebola outbreak in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where health authorities have reported 13 confirmed cases and approximately 65 suspected deaths linked to the disease.

The outbreak has been detected in the Mongwalu and Rwampara health zones, raising fresh concerns among regional and international health agencies. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that the risk of cross-border transmission remains high due to continuous population movement and the close proximity of the affected areas to Uganda and South Sudan.

In response, emergency coordination discussions involving the DRC, Uganda, South Sudan, the World Health Organization and other health partners are ongoing to strengthen preparedness and containment efforts across the region.

Uganda’s Ministry of Health has assured the public that the country’s surveillance and emergency response systems remain on high alert following the successful containment of its last Ebola outbreak in 2025. Authorities say monitoring at border points and health facilities has been intensified as preventive measures are reinforced to guard against possible transmission.
