The Government has invested Shs1 billion in a modern agro-processing facility at the Sebei Zonal Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub to promote value addition, reduce post-harvest losses, and create opportunities for youth and farmers.

The facility, equipped with a maize milling plant, animal feed processor, and 500-metric tonne grain silos imported from China, can process up to 10 tonnes of maize and soya daily. The animal feed unit is expected to reduce Uganda’s dependence on imported feeds by using locally sourced raw materials.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement, Eng. Raymond Kamugisha, Director of Projects and Presidential Industrial Hubs at State House, said the project is part of a nationwide rollout covering 11 of the 19 Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub. He urged communities to embrace the facilities to improve livelihoods.

The initiative also includes farmer training in post-harvest handling and quality management, while a Four-Acre Model demonstration farm featuring coffee, bananas, beef cattle, and other enterprises will be established at the hub.

Local leaders welcomed the investment, noting that the Sebei hub has already trained about 1,200 youths, with Shs200 million provided to support SACCOs. The Government also plans to establish a Common User Production Facility to help graduates and residents manufacture goods commercially.
