The government has postponed this yearโ€™s Martyrsโ€™ Day celebrations following concerns about the Ebola outbreak in Eastern Congo.

According to President Yoweri Museveni, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to protect public health. He noted that Uganda usually receives thousands of pilgrims from Eastern Congo during the annual celebrations, increasing the risk of cross-border transmission.

The President explained that the postponement is intended to safeguard both Ugandans and international visitors attending the event. Authorities say a new date for the celebrations will be announced later.

Martyrsโ€™ Day is one of Ugandaโ€™s largest religious gatherings, attracting pilgrims from across East Africa and beyond each year.
