President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the Kampala Storage Terminal (KST) at Namwabula in Mpigi District, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of Ugandaโs petroleum storage and distribution infrastructure.
The new terminal is expected to complement the existing Jinja Storage Terminal, enhancing the countryโs capacity to maintain strategic petroleum reserves and improve preparedness for prolonged fuel supply disruptions. Once operational, the facility will receive both imported and locally refined petroleum products for distribution across Kampala, the central region and other parts of the country.
The Kampala Storage Terminal is also set to become a key component of Ugandaโs growing petroleum infrastructure network. Plans include the construction of a 211-kilometre pipeline linking the terminal to the proposed oil refinery in Hoima, strengthening the movement and distribution of petroleum products across the country.
The project underscores Ugandaโs continued efforts to develop modern energy infrastructure, improve fuel security and support the efficient distribution of petroleum products nationwide.
