Ugandaโs Ministry of Health has launched medical drone flights linking Butabika, Koome and Kalangala to deliver essential medical supplies to island health facilities and transport laboratory samples for testing.
Dr Charles Ayume, Minister of State for Health in charge of Primary Health Care, launched the flights, which delivered supplies to the islands and returned with laboratory samples.
The initiative aims to improve access to healthcare in hard-to-reach communities by speeding up medical deliveries and sample transportation, supporting timely diagnosis and treatment.
Dr Ayume said the findings from the flights will guide the Ministryโs decision on integrating drone transport into the existing Integrated National Sample Transport Network to strengthen reliable sample delivery from remote health facilities to laboratories.
