Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have taken another significant step toward strengthening regional economic ties following the signing of a new Memorandum of Understanding aimed at boosting bilateral trade and investment cooperation.

The agreement was signed between the Uganda Free Zones and Export Promotions Authority and the Agence Nationale de Promotion des Exportations during the 9th Session of the Uganda–DRC Joint Standing Committee held at State House Entebbe.

The high-level meeting was led by President Yoweri Museveni and President Félix Tshisekedi, reflecting the growing commitment by both nations to deepen economic cooperation and regional integration.

Officials say the partnership is expected to promote more structured bilateral trade, expand export opportunities, attract investment, improve market access, and support industrialisation and value addition in both countries.

Executive Director of UFZEPA, Hez Kimoomi Alinda, described the agreement as a major milestone in advancing regional economic integration and creating fresh opportunities for exporters, manufacturers, and investors across the region.

As part of ongoing engagements, a delegation from ANAPEX led by Managing Director Mike Tambwe Lubembwa later visited UFZEPA offices in Kampala to discuss practical implementation strategies and strengthen institutional cooperation between the two agencies.

The partnership underscores the shared vision of Uganda and the DRC to promote cross-border trade, unlock regional investment opportunities, and create broader economic benefits for citizens in both countries.
