Bushenyi District is set to roll out the Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) programme, with 144 workers to be trained and deployed across 72 parishes after completing six months of training.
The programme, supported by the US Government through the Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC), aims to bring health services closer to communities. Bushenyi joins Bududa, Bugiri, Buvuma, Kanungu, Katakwi, Mpigi, Alebtong, Amuru, Pakwach and Madi-Okollo in the new cohort.
Currently, 70 districts are implementing the programme, with more than 8,500 CHEWs trained, equipped and deployed to strengthen community-level healthcare.
