The launch of the Euro Gold project marks a significant step in formalising Ugandaโs artisanal and small-scale mining sector. The company plans to produce at least 20 kilogrammes of gold weekly and establish a processing plant to enhance mineral traceability, accountability and value addition.
Mining stakeholders welcomed the initiative, highlighting its potential to improve safety, working conditions and accountability. Authorities also reiterated the need to combat illegal mining, smuggling and unsafe operations, noting that more than 15 illegal mining sites have been closed this year.
Government officials urged responsible mining practices, protection of children from mining activities, and continued support for artisanal miners. The project is expected to create jobs, attract investment and strengthen Ugandaโs gold value chain, particularly in Yumbe and the wider West Nile region.
