The Ministry of Health has delivered 471,400 insecticide-treated mosquito nets to Kayunga District as part of a nationwide campaign to reduce malaria infections and protect communities from the disease.

Receiving the consignment on behalf of the district, Assistant District Health Officer Olivia Busingye said the nets will be distributed across all 71 parishes and 407 villages, ensuring every household receives at least one net.

Busingye noted that health teams will first undergo training and communities will be sensitized on the proper use of mosquito nets to maximize the campaign’s impact and ensure accountability during distribution.

Health officials continue to emphasize that sleeping under treated mosquito nets remains one of the most effective and affordable ways to prevent malaria, particularly among children under five and pregnant women.

Kayunga District Chairperson Andrew Muwonge welcomed the initiative and urged residents to use the nets strictly for malaria prevention, warning against misuse for activities such as fishing or poultry rearing.

He said proper use of the nets will help reduce malaria cases, lower medical costs for families, and improve overall community health.

The distribution exercise is expected to begin after training and sensitization activities. District leaders are optimistic that the intervention will significantly reduce malaria prevalence in Kayunga, contributing to national efforts to combat one of Uganda’s leading public health challenges.
