President Yoweri Museveni has urged South Sudanese leaders to uphold peace and stability ahead of the countryโs December 22 general elections, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between Uganda and South Sudan.
During a meeting at State House Entebbe with a delegation led by South Sudanโs Trade and Industry Minister, Dr Labanya Margaret Mathya Ugila, Museveni also called for the removal of trade barriers, improved security along the JubaโNimule road and progress on the electricity transmission project.
He noted that Uganda exports goods worth approximately $700 million annually to South Sudan, adding that stronger cooperation could further expand trade between the two countries.
South Sudanโs upcoming elections will be its first since independence in 2011, amid ongoing political tensions and concerns over preparations for the vote.
