The Uganda Peopleโs Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced a nationwide recruitment exercise scheduled from July 20 to August 1, 2026, as part of efforts to strengthen its workforce and advance military modernisation.
Speaking at the Uganda Media Centre, Acting Defence Public Information Officer Col Chris Magezi said the exercise will recruit both general service personnel and specialised professionals in fields such as engineering, health services, aviation, ICT, education, law, logistics, sports, music, and social sciences.
General recruits must be aged 18โ22 and possess a Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) obtained in 2024 or 2025, while specialised applicants must meet additional professional and academic requirements.
Applicants are required to submit handwritten applications, recommendation letters from local leaders, a national ID, and original academic documents. Successful candidates will be shortlisted after district-level screening and published on the official UPDF website.
Col Magezi emphasized that the recruitment process is free of charge and warned against bribery, forgery, and extortion, noting that offenders will face arrest and prosecution. He also encouraged women to apply as part of efforts to promote gender balance within the force.
The recruitment drive underscores the UPDFโs commitment to building a professional, technologically advanced military capable of addressing modern security challenges.
