Uganda has been selected to host the 2027 International Water Association (IWA) Water and Development Congress and Exhibition in Kampala, bringing together more than 3,000 global water and sanitation experts, researchers, investors and development partners.
The announcement was made at the IWA’s 2026 Annual General Meeting in Glasgow, Scotland. The event is expected to boost international partnerships, investment, innovation and conference tourism.
The Government, through the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), will lead preparations, building on Uganda’s successful hosting of the 2025 AfWASA International Congress and Exhibition, which attracted over 2,500 delegates.
IWA leaders have expressed confidence in Uganda’s ability to deliver a successful event, while NWSC has reaffirmed the country’s readiness.
Beyond addressing global water and sanitation challenges, the congress will strengthen Africa’s participation in international discussions, promote research and technical cooperation, and create business opportunities in hospitality, transport and exhibitions. It will also showcase Uganda’s tourism attractions, including the Source of the Nile, Lake Victoria, national parks and mountain gorilla experiences.
