Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is set to commission the Yaobai Cement Uganda state-of-the-art cement and clinker plant in Moroto this week, marking a major step forward in Ugandaโs industrialisation efforts.
Valued at over $300 million, the project is one of the largest investments in Northern Uganda and reflects rising investor confidence in the Karamoja sub-region. With an initial production capacity exceeding 6,000 tonnes of clinker per day, the facility will significantly strengthen local manufacturing.
The plant is expected to cut Ugandaโs dependence on imported clinker by more than 2.5 million tonnes annually, helping stabilise cement prices and improve availability for the growing construction sector.
Beyond its industrial impact, the factory is already driving socio-economic progress in Karamoja by creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and increasing household incomes.
The commissioning event will gather leaders, investors, government officials, and cultural representatives, underscoring a shared vision for inclusive growth. This development further positions Karamoja as an emerging investment hub within Ugandaโs broader economic transformation.
