Mubende District has received a vehicle from the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries to strengthen implementation of the World Bank-funded Climate Smart Agriculture Programme while launching the distribution of 43,000 hand hoes to farmers.
The vehicle will improve monitoring and supervision of programme activities across the district, with motorcycles also expected to support field operations. The latest distribution raises the total number of hand hoes provided under the government programme to over 130,000.
District Production Officer Fred Kisakye described the Climate Smart Agriculture Programme as a transformative initiative that promotes modern, climate-resilient farming, improves productivity, and boosts household incomes. He noted that the new vehicle will ease transport challenges faced by extension workers, enabling them to reach farmers across the district more effectively.
Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer Edson Ssali welcomed the support, saying it will strengthen programme supervision, accountability, and service delivery. He added that the hand hoes will benefit farmers who missed earlier distributions, helping increase food production and reduce poverty.
District leaders thanked President Yoweri Museveni, the government, and the World Bank for their continued investment in agriculture, reaffirming their commitment to improving rural livelihoods. Agriculture remains Mubende’s main economic activity, with maize, beans, bananas, and livestock farming supporting thousands of households across the district’s 132,046 households and an estimated population of 520,000.
