Mulago National Referral Hospital has unveiled a transformed Stanfield Pediatric Ward following a UGX 800 million renovation aimed at enhancing the quality of care for children.
The upgraded ward now features separate isolation rooms, dedicated washrooms, piped oxygen at every bed, a High Dependency Unit, improved sanitation facilities, and a child-friendly environment designed to support better patient care and recovery.
The renovation project was commissioned by Mulago Hospital and funded by Grow in Hope, a faith-based organisation, in partnership with Kansai Plascon Uganda and Dellwall International. The initiative forms part of a broader programme to strengthen health infrastructure at the national referral hospital.
The Stanfield Pediatric Ward also carries a rich history, having been named after Dr. James Padet Stanfield, an English pediatrician who served in Uganda from 1962. Dr. Stanfield is remembered for pioneering community pediatrics, disease prevention, and child nutrition initiatives that contributed significantly to child healthcare in Uganda.
