President Yoweri Museveni has urged South Sudanese leaders to uphold peace and stability ahead of the countryโ€™s December 22 general elections, stressing the importance of continued cooperation between Uganda and South Sudan.

During a meeting at State House Entebbe with a delegation led by South Sudanโ€™s Trade and Industry Minister, Dr Labanya Margaret Mathya Ugila, Museveni also called for the removal of trade barriers, improved security along the Jubaโ€“Nimule road and progress on the electricity transmission project.

He noted that Uganda exports goods worth approximately $700 million annually to South Sudan, adding that stronger cooperation could further expand trade between the two countries.

South Sudanโ€™s upcoming elections will be its first since independence in 2011, amid ongoing political tensions and concerns over preparations for the vote.
