President Yoweri Museveni has praised Roofings Group’s continued investment in Uganda, describing the company as a symbol of international cooperation and industrial progress. He noted that Roofings brings together technology and expertise from Italy, Japan and China, demonstrating how global partnerships can drive economic transformation and poverty reduction.
The President said the new investment will expand Uganda’s industrial capacity, create jobs and support the country’s journey towards middle-income status.
Trade Minister Sanjay Tanna commended Roofings Group for its growth, describing the Namanve plant as a strong vote of confidence in Uganda’s stable investment environment. He also credited reduced industrial electricity tariffs for making Uganda more competitive and attractive to manufacturers.
Roofings Group Chairman Dr. Sikander Lalani thanked President Museveni for promoting peace, security and industrialisation, saying these factors have been central to the company’s success. He also acknowledged support from the Uganda Investment Authority and other government agencies, while calling for reliable electricity and improved railway infrastructure to strengthen production and transportation.
Roofings Group Director Oliver Lalani reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Uganda and the wider East African market, citing growing regional demand for quality steel products. He praised efforts towards regional integration and pledged continued collaboration with government to transform the steel industry.
The newly inaugurated rolling mill forms part of a modern industrial complex that includes cold rolling, galvanising, colour-coating and edge-trimming facilities. The investment will increase local value addition, reduce reliance on imports, strengthen manufacturing capacity and contribute to job creation and economic growth.
The inauguration was attended by cabinet ministers, senior government officials and private sector representatives, underscoring the importance of the project to Uganda’s expanding industrial base.
