Uganda and India have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a renewed focus on healthcare, agriculture, digital technology and capacity building following a meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ugandaโs Vice President Jessica Alupo on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit.
Prime Minister Modi described the meeting as productive and expressed his delight at meeting Vice President Alupo, recalling his landmark visit to Uganda in 2018 and the Kampala Principles, which continue to shape Indiaโs engagement with Africa.
The two leaders discussed ways to expand cooperation in sectors considered vital to Ugandaโs development, particularly healthcare, agriculture, digital technologies and skills development. Modi emphasized that both countries remain committed to advancing bilateral ties while working together to amplify the voice and interests of developing nations on the global stage.
The discussions come as Uganda continues to strengthen its engagement with BRICS countries and deepen relations with emerging global economic powers.
Vice President Alupo represented President Yoweri Museveni at the summit and delivered his statement to the gathering. She later reaffirmed Ugandaโs commitment to building stronger partnerships with BRICS nations, expressing optimism about enhanced cooperation through the blocโs engagements.
Alupo said it was an honour to present President Museveniโs message to the summit and noted that Uganda looks forward to strengthening mutual cooperation with BRICS countries.
Held under the theme โBuilding for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,โ the 18th BRICS Summit focused on promoting stronger collaboration, innovation, resilience and sustainable development among participating countries.
The meeting between Uganda and India highlights the growing momentum in bilateral relations and reflects Ugandaโs broader efforts to leverage BRICS partnerships to support national development, economic growth and international cooperation.
