Uganda is gearing up for a landmark national event as preparations intensify for the swearing-in and inauguration of President-elect Yoweri Museveni, set for May 12, 2026, at the iconic Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.
The ceremony, scheduled to run from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., will be held under the theme *โProtecting the gains, making a qualitative leap to higher middle income status.โ* It is expected to attract more than 30 international delegations, alongside senior government officials, diplomats, Members of Parliament, and thousands of citizens.
Minister for Presidency Milly Babalanda confirmed that extensive arrangements are underway to deliver a seamless and secure event, with multiple security agencies coordinating efforts. To ensure nationwide participation, the inauguration will also be broadcast live across television and digital platforms.
In the lead-up to the ceremony, a series of pre-inauguration activities have been planned, including the presentation of the outgoing termโs manifesto implementation report and national thanksgiving prayers. These events are designed to reflect on past achievements while setting the tone for the next phase of leadership.
Government officials point to significant progress in peace, security, and socio-economic transformation over recent years. Key initiatives such as the Parish Development Model, Emyooga, and Operation Wealth Creation are credited with improving livelihoods, expanding job opportunities, and boosting local enterprise. Investments in infrastructure and energy have further supported Ugandaโs economic growth.
The inauguration will mark the beginning of President Museveniโs seventh term in office, following his victory in the latest general elections. Officials say the occasion represents not only a constitutional transition but also a moment of accountability and renewed commitment to national development.
As the country counts down to May 12, the event is shaping up to be both a celebration of continuity and a forward-looking step toward Ugandaโs ambition of achieving higher middle-income status.
