Uganda has signed a UGX 232 billion contract with Egypt’s Samoc Contractors for the construction of the passenger terminal at Kabalega International Airport in Hoima.
The agreement marks another milestone in the development of the airport, which is expected to support aviation and economic activities in the Albertine region.
The contract was signed by Works and Transport Minister Hon. Fred Byamukama in the presence of Ugandan and Egyptian diplomats and aviation officials.
The eight-month project is expected to increase the airport’s passenger-handling capacity from about 100 to more than 1,000 passengers, supporting Uganda’s preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which it will co-host with Kenya and Tanzania.
The airport is also expected to improve air transport, tourism and business connectivity in the Albertine region, particularly in support of Uganda’s growing oil and gas sector.
