Uganda and Japan are exploring new areas of cooperation in microfinance, youth enterprise, innovation, green financing and digital financial services to strengthen their development partnership. During discussions with a Japanese delegation led by Takahashi Misako, State Minister for Microfinance Shartsi Kutesa Musherure praised Japanโs continued support in health, education, refugee welfare and infrastructure development, while highlighting the success of the Parish Development Model (PDM), which has reached more than 3.7 million beneficiaries and received Shs4.317 trillion in funding for 10,589 SACCOs nationwide.
Minister Musherure said Uganda is seeking Japanese expertise, technology and investment to strengthen community-based financial institutions, expand digital financial services and support inclusive economic growth. The two sides discussed cooperation in SACCO digitalisation, youth entrepreneurship, innovation, green finance and climate-smart technologies.
Japan reaffirmed its commitment to mutually beneficial partnerships with Uganda in trade, investment, technology, human resource development and innovation, aimed at creating more opportunities for young people, businesses and communities.
