The National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has assured Greater Kampala residents of more reliable water supply following ongoing network upgrades designed to serve up to one million additional people.
The project includes 69 kilometres of transmission mains, new reservoirs, booster stations and system upgrades to improve distribution from the Katosi Water Treatment Plant, which produces 160 million litres daily but currently supplies only about half its capacity due to network constraints.
Residents in areas including Kira, Kasangati, Namugongo, Nansana, Wakiso and Kawempe are expected to benefit. The Namugongo–Kasangati pipeline is scheduled for commissioning in January 2027, while the overall project is expected to be completed in August 2027.
NWSC has also announced that road and infrastructure restoration will begin this month, with contractors required to repair affected roads, walkways and verges. The Corporation has appealed for public patience as the works continue.
