A portion of the proceeds from the Gen MK 52nd Birthday Run has been donated to the Uganda Child Cancer Foundation (UCCF), reinforcing efforts to support children undergoing cancer treatment.
On Friday, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, accompanied by his wife Charlotte, presented a dummy cheque worth Shs100 million to the foundation at the Special Forces Command headquarters. The donation came from funds raised during the 10-kilometre charity run held on April 26, 2026, at Kololo Independence Grounds under the theme “Run for Charity, Run for Hope.”
Receiving the contribution were senior officials from UCCF, led by Dr. Racheal Angom and Executive Director Moses Echodu. Gen. Kainerugaba praised the foundation’s mission and expressed hope that the support would ease the burden faced by young cancer patients and their families.
The Uganda Child Cancer Foundation provides vital assistance, including transport, feeding, and accommodation for children receiving treatment and their caregivers. The organisation, founded in 2006 and fully operational since 2021, relies heavily on donations and support from partners such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Society, and the University of Cambridge.
Foundation leaders also shared plans to establish a hostel near the Uganda Cancer Institute to provide a safe and convenient place for children undergoing treatment, reducing the strain of long-distance travel.
