Residents of Kitoba Town Council in Hoima District have welcomed the construction of a new Shs3.1 billion seed secondary school, saying it will improve access to education and help reduce school dropout rates.
The Ministry of Education and Sports has handed over the construction site in Kiseke Village to Dolphins Consult Engineers and Contractors Company. Construction is scheduled to begin on June 24 and is expected to be completed within 10 months.
The project is part of the government’s initiative to establish seed secondary schools in areas with limited access to secondary education.
According to project supervisor Patrick Bongmin, the school will feature four classroom blocks, two science laboratories, a multipurpose hall, an administration block, an ICT centre, a library, staff housing and sports facilities, providing a complete learning environment for students and teachers.
Hoima District Chairperson Uthuman Mugisha Kadiri described the project as a major milestone that will benefit thousands of learners and support community development. Chief Administrative Officer Hajjat Sarah Aziz Nakalungi urged parents to enrol their children once the school opens, noting that education remains a powerful tool for fighting poverty.
Assistant Resident District Commissioner Shafih Ntuuyo said the project reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening education infrastructure and called for quality work and value for money.
Residents expressed optimism that the school will reduce the burden of long-distance travel to existing schools, lower education costs for families and improve school attendance among learners.
The site handover ceremony was attended by district leaders, Kitoba Town Council officials, community members and representatives of the contractor.
