Kampala Capital City Authority has suspended on-street parking along key sections of Kampala Road and Jinja Road as part of new measures aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving safety within Kampalaโ€™s Central Business District (CBD).

In a public notice issued on May 13, 2026, the Authority announced that the parking suspension covers the stretch from the Entebbe Road junction through Kampala Road up to the Jinja Road and Yusuf Lule junction near Kitgum House.

According to KCCA, the move is intended to improve the smooth flow of traffic, enhance road safety for motorists and pedestrians, and strengthen mobility across the busy city centre. The Authority explained that the decision forms part of broader urban traffic management efforts designed to create a more efficient and orderly transport environment within the CBD.

Motorists affected by the changes have been advised to use alternative parking locations including Station Road, Dewinton Road, Siad Barre Road, and Nkrumah Road. Drivers were also encouraged to utilise parking facilities within buildings and commercial premises they intend to visit, as well as designated off-street parking areas such as the Uganda National Cultural Centre parking grounds, Uganda House, and the multi-storey parking facility on Portal Avenue.

KCCA has further urged motorists to cooperate with enforcement officers and comply with the revised parking arrangements as implementation begins.

The development comes at a time when Kampala continues to face mounting traffic pressure, especially along major commercial corridors that experience heavy vehicle movement and pedestrian activity throughout the day. City authorities believe the latest measures will help decongest the capital and improve overall urban mobility.
